Cherppu Bhagavathy Temple is one of the 108 Durga Temple -
established by Lord Parasurama.
Here Goddess Durga being worshipped in a calm form of a
Mother. Mainly devotees seeing her as an
Avatar of Goddess Bhoomi Devi (Mother of Earth).
Main festival of this temple is “Aswathi Vela Mahotsavam”.
Main offering towards the goddess is offering of “Coconut
Oil”. From the beginning of the festival
day – hundreds of people will gather there to offer “Coconut Oil” to the
Goddess.
After the Main Pooja - in the evening called “Deeparadhana”
devotees will donate money to the Goddess as part of custom. It has been believed that people will get
prosperity in their life through this offering.
During the night procession devotees will lighten the coconut lamp with
the help of coconut oil. It will be a marvelous
experience in everyone’s life.
All these events are conducted mainly part of the festival “Araattupuzha
Pooram”. It is a festival of gathering Gods
and Goddess with Tens of Elephants and colorful umbrellas with massive Drum
beatings [Panchavadyam].
On the day of “Pooram of Araattupuzha” festival Cherppu
Bhagavathy will go to see the Lord Triprayar Sree Rama. After this event Goddess from the “Oorakam
Temple” as well as the Lord Sastha from the Chathakkudam Temple will join with above
50 elephants in this Procession.
To seeing the Gods and the Goddess in the Pooram festival is
known as “Vaikunda Darshan”.
Presence of Lord Triprayar Sree Rama [Avatar of Lord
Mahavishnu] with Cherppu Bhagavathy [Bhoomi Devi] and Oorakam Devi [Mahalakshmi]
will create this Pooram festival as a marvelous event.
We should see this event - at least once in our life !
